Placement through Briar & Root costs you nothing. We work with families across Northern and Central Indiana who want an experienced, full-time nanny, and we spend our time making sure the match is right for both of you.
You are hired by the family, not by us. When a family hires you, they become your employer. You agree your own rate, hours, and terms directly with them, and we stay reachable through the first months to help the placement settle.

Briar & Root places full-time, live-out nannies, thirty hours a week and up, with families in Fort Wayne, South Bend, Indianapolis, and the communities between. We are based in Warsaw.
The nannies who do well with us tend to have:
- Real, checkable experience caring for children, whether in a family's home, a center, or through a program like au pair or cultural exchange.
- References who will actually speak to us. We call them directly, rather than emailing a form.
- A clean driving record and current car insurance, since most roles involve driving children.
- The professionalism to treat this as the career it is: reliable, communicative, and honest about what you are and are not looking for.

A first conversation
If your experience fits the families we serve, Kate will reach out for a conversation about your background, what you are looking for, and how you like to work.
Vetting
Before we introduce you to anyone, we speak with your references directly, confirm your employment history, and verify your driving record, car insurance, and education. A criminal background check is run through an accredited provider once you are a family's finalist, on their own compliant forms.
Introductions
When a family's role fits what you do, we present you as one of a small shortlist, with what we have learned about you. You interview with the family directly, in their home.
The offer is yours to agree
If you and the family both want to go ahead, the two of you agree your rate, your schedule, and your terms directly. We provide a work agreement template so nothing important gets missed, and you sign with each other, not with us.
After you start
The first months are when a placement settles. We stay reachable to both of you through the ninety-day window and beyond, because a good match is worth protecting.

Tell us about yourself and attach your resume. Everything past your name and email is optional, but the more you tell us, the better we can match you.

Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. Our fee is paid by the family. You never pay us, before a placement or after one.
Who will I be working for?
The family, not us. When a family hires you, they become your employer. You agree your rate, hours, and terms directly with them, and the working relationship is yours. We are not in the middle of it.
Do I have to be full-time?
At launch we place full-time, live-out roles only, thirty hours a week and up. If you are looking for part-time or occasional work, we may not have a fit right now, but you are welcome to send your resume so we have it on file.
What will you check?
We speak with your references directly, confirm your employment history, and verify your driving record, car insurance, and education. Once you are a family's finalist, a criminal background check is run through an accredited screening provider on their own forms. Nothing is shared beyond the family considering you.
What areas do you cover?
We are based in Warsaw, Indiana, and place across Northern and Central Indiana, including Fort Wayne, South Bend, Indianapolis, and the communities between. If you are near the edge of that, send your resume anyway and tell us where you are.
What should I put in my resume?
Your work history with dates, the ages of children you have cared for, your driving and any certifications such as CPR, first aid, or early childhood training, and references we can call. If you do not have a formal resume, email Kate a note about your experience and we will start there.
I used to be an au pair. Does that count?
Yes. Kate spent seven years in au pair and cultural exchange placement, so that is exactly the kind of background we know how to read. Tell us about it.
Will I be listed on a website for anyone to find?
No. We are not a public directory. We get to know you and introduce you to a family only when the role genuinely fits. Most of our work is deciding who a family does not need to meet.
